i just got back from a catholic retreat and during one of the sessions, i was told a rather moving story.
have you guys seen a commercial on tv about the yellow ribbon project? where we put a yellow ribbon outside our home to indicate we welcome ex-convicts back in society?
well, this was based on an actual story.
a dude was convicted and was sent to prison. he wrote to his wife, telling her not to write or communicate during his jail term. he told his wife when he was going to be released, and asked his wife to tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree near their home as a sign that he could go back to their house and that his wife has forgiven him.
thru his jail term his wife never sent him any letters or made any communication whatsoever.
upon his release, he was anxious while on his way back, and was asking the bus driver to look out for a yellow ribbon on the old oak tree near his house, across the avenue.
when the bus driver made a turn into the avenue where the oak trees are, both of them saw hundreds of yellow ribbons tied on the oak trees along the street.
of course it was a happy ending, he was reunited with his wife and kids.
yellow ribbons henceforth are universally used as a symbol for forgiveness.
why not give a yellow ribbon to someone today to show a sign of your forgiveness towards him or her? ;)
